Obama on Letterman – 5 Things You Shouldn’t Have Missed

Obama was a guest at The Late Night Show with David Letterman on September 18, 2012, and for an hour, discussed topics such as the American economy, the events in the Middle East as well as the campaign too.

While the conversation between the two was more serious and filled with pockets of humor, there were several important points that were made and which might have been missed out.

So, here are 5 points that you shouldn’t have missed when Obama was on Letterman:

#1: Obama said that he wants to grow the economy from the ‘middle out’ while also explaining how the ‘national deficit’ worked. He also said that, for the short-term, the country is fine whereas the same cannot be said for the mid and long term.

#2: Since Obama was the only guest, Letterman, in reference to Clint Eastwood’s RNC speech, asked the President whether he had something to say to the empty chair. The President said that he didn’t and also mentioned that he had not watched the RNC either.

#3: Speaking of reducing the military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama agreed with that fact but also expressed the need for the non-military presence of the United States in the region.

#4: In regard to the killing of Chris Stevens, the President said that the former Ambassador to Libya is the actual ‘face’ of the United States and that extremists who need an excuse to commit acts of violence, aren’t how all Muslims are.

#5: Last but not the least, when asked about his daughters growing up, Obama said, “It worries me, but they’re surrounded by men with guns.”
