Fans have a theory about Jon’s True Parentage which Makes Sense

Among a plethora of fan theories that are out there when it comes to the Game of Thrones, the most popular one is about who are the real parents of Jon Snow.

In the show, he is known to be the bastard child of Ned Stark, the Lord of Winterfell. There’s a good reason for this theory to find itself popular for the simple reason that Jon’s illegitimacy and Ned’s strict code of conduct continues is a cause of conflict for the former.

The theory, called the R+L=J theory, where instead of being Ned’s illegitimate child, Jon’s father was Rhaegar Targaryen (for the ‘R’) and his mother was Lyanna Stark (for the ‘L’) who is Ned’s sister.

Without a doubt, this is one of the best kept secrets of the show that the author George R.R Martin have asked them for the true identity of Jon’s parents.

According to a theory, create as a video by YouTube user AltShiftX, Ned’s sister Lyanna was supposed to marry Robert Baratheon but was stolen by Rhaegar Targaryen and which set off a war and which is how the Game of Thrones series begins.

In fact, the theory which also draws on a number of facts, suggests that Lyanna was in love with Rhaegar and ran away with him.

After Robert kills Rhaegar and Ned finds his sister in a deb of blood, she asks him to keep a promise and that was to pretend as if the child she birthed was his. This was to protect Jon from the murder of Rhaegar’s children carried out by Ser Gregor Clegane.
