The end of traditional radio stations

The Radio as we know it, has been around for almost a century now.In that time period it has gone through many changes; like, what goes on the air, how it goes on the air and how it is received. This has seen many interesting technologies come and go but the generally the changes have always been for the better.

With the advent of online radio stations, it is becoming evident that yet another change is about to take place. Just as transistors replaces valves and made radio smaller, more accessible and mobile, the internet is replacing the traditional radio receiver and causing a new revolution. The greatest advantage of internet radio is that it requires only a data or internet connection. Other than that the hardware you need is already on your desk, in your laptop bag or in yourpocket.

Any computer or new mobile phone is capable of connecting to the net and therefore able to search for and stream online radio broadcasts. This means access to your favorite radio station from any part of the world. Not only that you can search for and find any kind of music or specialty channel be it country music, talk radio or top 40. This kind of variety and accessibility is drawing lots of fans all across the world. It is fairly safe to assume that as internet access grows and more and more devices get fitted with internet access capability, the end of the traditional radio station is nigh.
