HBO signs new deal with Amazon Prime, will be free for subscribers

With HBO signing a licensing deal with Amazon Prime, subscribers to the latter’s services will have access to exclusive HBO content in the form of series, movies and comedy specials from the month of May.

If you’ve been a fan of HBO’s content in the past, then this is as obvious as a big deal as possible since it involves some of the television network’s highest acclaimed series but this will also be the first time it will partner with an online-based subscription-based streamer.

What this also points to is that HBO moves away from cable or satellite provider packages and will offer just about everything that’s available on HBO to internet users. Of course, this also means that you can access HBO content using set-tops, game consoles, phones and tablets that you might use to log into Amazon Prime.

If you are an Amazon Prime member, these shows will be free to watch. All seasons of some of the old shows such as The Sopranos, Eastbound & Down, Rome, Deadwood and Rome will be available.

As for miniseries, Band of Brothers, Angels in America, John Adams, The Pacific and Parade’s End will also be made available too.

Comedy specials involving Lewis Black, Bill Maher, Louis CK and Ellen DeGeneres will also be accessible while seasons of current series such as True Blood, Treme and Boardwalk Empire will be offered to subscribers of Amazon Prime.

But that’s not all – earlier shows such as Girls, The Newsroom and Veep will also be made available going forward about three years after it has been aired on HBO.

That said, none of these shows will be exclusively accessible on Prime but will continue to remain on all HBO platforms.
