Dolly Parton expresses support for Miley Cyrus, shows interest in singing a duet

Since Dolly Parton is Miley Cyrus’ godmother, it isn’t surprising that she has had kind words for the young singer, who has taken a lot of criticism for her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards recently.

Parton, in an interview with the London Evening Standard, expressed her support for Miley, in saying, “I’ve loved her through the years and watched her grow up, and I’ve seen how smart she is and how talented she is. I don’t think people really realize yet what a great singer and writer she really is. She’s just trying to find her own place and wings and learn to fly.”

Parton also feels that it isn’t easy being young and knowing what to do as one has to go to extremes to get just about anything done. Yet she clarified that she will not give the young star any career advice but will always be available if she needed to talk.

Finally, Parton also expressed her interest in singing a duet with Cyrus which seems to be a better idea than her efforts at rapping about Oprah and ‘Duck Dynasty’ on the Queen Latifah Show a couple of weeks ago.

However, she isn’t the only one on Miley’s side. A number of musicians namely Kanye West, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga are showing their support for her while Sinead O’Connor, Cher, Pink and Elton John have not been shy about criticizing Miley.

Parton is the godmother of Miley Cyrus, as the latter’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, is a good friend.
