Argo Wins ‘Best Picture’ At The Oscars, Macfarlane’s Racy Humor Gets Attention

publisher February 27, 2013

Argo won three awards at the Oscars including ‘Best Picture’ but it was Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi” which won four in all, stealing the show for all the right reasons.

On the other hand, MacFarlane, who hosted the awards, took a lot of flak for his sexist and racist humor.

Speaking of his win, which was announced by Michelle Obama, Affleck said, “I was sort of hallucinating when that was happening. In the course of a hallucination, it doesn’t seem that odd: Oh, look a purple elephant. Oh look, Michelle Obama.”

He went to add: “I never thought I’d be back here, and I am because of so many of you in the academy.”

Other movies among the awards include Les Miserables, which bagged 3 awards while Django Unchained and Skyfall snapped up 2 awards each.

As for the show, MacFarlane displayed a genuine love for showtunes with a lot of singing and dancing along with racist and sexist humor, taking shots at Chris Brown, Rihanna, George Clooney and Mel Gibson.

As for the actors’ awards, Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Oscar for Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’, Jennifer Lawrence won ‘Best Actress’ for her portrayal of a widow in Silver Linings Playbook, Anne Hathaway won ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for playing the prostitute Fantine in Les Miserables.

A surprise winner in the Best Supporting Actor category was Christopher Waltz, playing a bounty hunter in Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’.

The movie ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ won an Oscar for sound editing while ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ won best documentary feature while Pixar’s ‘Brave’ won best animated feature.
