It was only last year that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D began just as Marvel was enjoying its success, thanks to both Iron Man 3 and the first Avengers movie.
With a small budget, too much was expected from the TV show which promised fans a sneak peek into the Marvel cinematic universe.
It was not long before a number of fans wrote it off but it definitely turned things around during the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where the TV show tied in with the movie and as a result, opened up the narrative as well.
And while we continue to see DC comics superheroes garner attention on the small screen, the same cannot be said for Marvel, not after the reception that the Incredible Hulk show has received in the 70s.
However, with the Christmas break, a change of fortune for Marvel is expected since there are four new shows in the pipeline for Netflix and apart from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. If that’s not enough, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D will also get a spin off show titled Agent Carter, which will reveal how S.H.I.E.L.D was founded.
What makes this show even better is the fact that it is connected to the larger Marvel Universe while also being affected by the events that take place there. The latest of these include the tying in with the release of the movie, Inhuman, slated for release in 2016.
While there’s a danger of the show becoming predictable, it also has its benefits considering the fact that the DC Comics TV shows and movies aren’t as cohesive in this manner just yet.
Having said that, and for this reason, it might not be long before Marvel begins to do better than DC Comics on the small screen.
